Camden County Workforce Investment Board

Supporting the development and retention of a world class workforce

March 26, 2008: A Tribute to Leona Tanker

On March 26, 2008 Leona Tanker was honored with a roast celebrating her thirty-two years of service to Camden County at the Boathouse, Pennsauken, NJ. Among the attendees where US Congressman Robert Andrews; Commissioner David Socolow, New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development; Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli, Jr.; James Wallace, Sr. VP Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center.

As Executive Director of the Camden County Workforce Investment Board, Leona created an alliance of state and county agencies, private business and community organizations that resulted in the Camden County WIB's ongoing recognition as one of the most successful WIBs in the State. Using the knowledge and experience that she gained over the years, Leona helped develop one of the most successful One-Stop Career Centers in New Jersey by helping to consolidate the work of many partnering organizations.   The One-Stop offers career assessment, job readiness training, literacy training, connection to a variety of occupational skills training and other forms of training that help to bolster the individual as well as local businesses.

Though Ms. Tanker has stepped down from Executive Director she will continue with the WIB as the Transportation Director until the Camden County Travel Management Coordination Center is rolled out.
